Hi everyone. This is my first project posting to LJ’s so be please be gentle…

I made these flower boxes last spring. I have only been woodworking for about a year and this is one of my early projects and my first effort at trying to mass produce something. I bet I made 200 of these things. I posted an ad to sell them on craigslist and I literally couldn’t make them fast enough. On the other hand, it paid for several new tools:) I think my favorite part of this project was watching the evolution of the design to increase efficiency in time and material.
These boxes are 100% recycled material from pallet wood. It was a lot of sweat and two sets of knives for the planer because of hidden nails (I have since invested in a metal detector from Woodcraft).

I love this website. I am amazed at the collection of knowledge and skill that resides here.

Nice looking planters & outstanding idea with selling them like that. I been trying to think of a way to fund new tools I want without dipping into the family money….. I think you just gave me inspiration….

Keep posting, we want to see more…..

Unless you doctored up the photos. I don’t see anything wrong with the planters. I think they look great. Did you seal them with anything?

If you plan on making more projects out of recycled wood, it’s a good thing you purchased a metal detector wand!

It sounds like you have the sales part down to a science. What did you price them at to sell so many?
