Living in rainy Germany, had an umbrella stand made of wicker that was of very poor quality. I basically fell apart so I decided to make one myself using scrap hardwood that was left over from his cutting boards – mostly walnut, cherry, and maple. He also found some oak and a other species as well in the trash bin at the base wood shop. The live edge on top is from a slab of walnut. The only non-wood part is the metal pole which was repurposed from a broken clothes rack.

Beautiful and inovative design. One great idea how to use scraps in workshop. This is also space saver – obviously you can put it by any wall and it won’t be on the way.
