Black walnut, finished just with boiled linseed oil and paste wax.
Big mistake – because walnut is open-pored, the wax residue sticks in the pores and makes the finish a foggy gray color! LOL. Had to go back and wipe it down with mineral spirits, then I re-oiled it. Still not delighted with the finish, which has simply gone dull over time. One of these days I will take it back down to the shop and add a few layers of shellac, for some shine and added protection. Now that wax is in the wood pores, I don’t think poly will ever stick to it properly. So shellac it will be.
