This is an extra long handle made of fancy red Manzanita Burl. This was designed to help the cane user eliminate putting pressure on the hand and wrist area by using the forearm to support the user’s weight. The knob is held in the palm while the forearm rests on the handle. It can also be used by placing your hand in the crotch of the knob/handle area over the shaft for a sturdy handhold. The handle is approximately 8.5” long x 3 3/4” high x 1.5” thick. The collar is made of Black Walnut and the shaft of solid Sapele.
Manzanita is a shrub type of bush that does not grow very large and the burl is not only hard to find but it usually has lots of cracks or voids from harsh weather, rocks and dirt, so it’s extremely rare to get a piece this large that’s stable enough to make a handle this long. The grain of this piece of red Manzanita is very tight and multi-directional and quite beautiful.
