I bought these watercolors of the 4 Seasons during a business trip to Shanghai a couple of years ago. They aren’t expensive fine art, but I thought they would be worthy enough of some proper frames. Wife got them professionally mounted on foam core, then I took over.
The wood is birdseye maple, finished with antique chestnut gel stain applied over a sealer coat of shellac. Then a topcoat of shellac.

Real nice. The contrast between the maple and the pic border really looks sharp.

Great job – I especially like the contrast between the maple frames and the dark mats. Looks really nice!

Beautiful, indeed! I use a lot of maple and have never seen the Antique Chestnut gel stain. Good choice—they seem to glow. What brand of gel stain did you use?
