This bowl is made from Ash in the usual way but after turning and finishing the underside the bowl is remounted on the lathe using the chucking socket previously turned. The top surface is turned flat, sanded and cleaned up to a finish, then the surface is sprayed with an ebonising black acrylic spray and allowed to dry. Once the surface is dry a gold cream paste grain filler is rubbed into the open grain of the Ash to highlight the grain, then once that is dry and sprayed with a clear acrylic lacquer that is allowed to dry the centre of the bowl is turned out to reveal the natural cream colour of the Ash. The effect is to give and added interest to the bowl with the impact of the black against the cream. The last picture is of the bowl with some of the wooden fruit I made from an old apple tree.

Nice job on the bowl and fruit Bill. Are you doing any more projects with indexing and drilling?

Yes John I still use my indexing gear and I have also acquired eqipment that will allow me to do spiralling to the tops of boxes, some of this equipment is bought and then modified and some is what I have made, I will post one of the boxes within the next few days.

Extremely nice bowl and fruit also.

I have a chunk of apple to give to anyone close— to neat to cut up or burn.

Anyone close wanting some smaller pieces of apple wood; I will happily share as I inherited a bunch of firewood that happens to be apple!
