This is a HUGE and HEAVY dining table. As with about 99% of my work, I do custom made work to exact client specifications. This dining table fits perfectly in their dining room and decor.
The table is made from yellow pine I got from one of the artisan sawmills I go to frequently. The top is a full and solid 2 inches thick with breadboard ends. That top is soo heavy!!!! The table base is what is featured on this table. The two pedestals on both ends, were cut from a solid block on the bandsaw. The details on top of the “belly” profiles were not added on, but rather literally cut from the solid block. It took a LONG time to cut both pedestals but it was worth it. The reason they were cut this way is to keep the grain running consistently, client specification! All of the joinery is mortise and tenon for a lifetime of strength!! The color is a single color custom mixed dye sprayed on and toned to achieve the color you see. The finish is 3 coats of a semi gloss acrylic poly sprayed on! Size is 48 inches wide X 9 feet long.
Perhaps my favorite aspect of this table is the plaque I had made for this table. During my consultation with my client, he mentioned that the money from this table is from his late grandmother’s estate as she had recently passed away. He wanted to commemorate her by commissioning this dining table. He stated that she loved cooking for family and that she always said, “Don’t forget the presentation.” Well I remembered this and had a plaque made with her quote and name. Instead of just the table, he can always see her words and name and knowing she’ll be there with them every time they have a meal at the table!!! Sometimes little things like this really make a project memorable because projects are projects to many folks, but they mean something to your clients!!! It’s an honor to be a part of the meaning of a project for many of my clients!!!
