Project Information

Good morning all!!! This is my second and only other box I have made. I have so many more ideas but just finding the time between my other work is a challenge!!!!

This custom jewelrey box was made for my niece who graduated high school in mid May 2016. It is made from wild black cherry and curly maple. The box features solid wood construction, dovetail joinery, velvet drawer bottoms, and solid brass pulls and hinges. The drawer dividers are removable also. To warm up the wood and bring out the color in the cherry, I used a dewaxed shellac, sanded, dewaxed shellac, etc. for 3 coats. The finish is a satin lacquer sprayed on. I really wanted to do blind dovetails on the 2 drawers but ran out of time as this was a quick last minute gift idea. The box measures 12 inches wide X 9 inches deep X 8 inches tall. I also need to figure out a better way to take pictures of my smaller projects like boxes and other gift ideas. I would like to showcase the colors and grain in better light and through better pictures.

The look on her face was priceless when she opened it!!! We're so proud of her and cannot wait to see her go through college and beyond!!!
