Built another chest to accommodate the knives and palm tools. First one was too big, second one (not posted as a project) was too small. This one is closer to what I need.
Red Oak, stained with Minwax Golden Oak, finished with three coats of satin Minwax fast-drying polyurethane. Drawers are lined with expanded vinyl. My first foray into lining drawers wasn’t fun- every bit of sawdust and the chips from carving got stuck in it all the time. I don’t enjoy vacuuming out a tool chest! The vinyl allows me to just use a little air.
Drawer separators are basswood window blinds cut to size. Saw that here, but don’t remember who showed it, at the moment. Drawers slide on wooden rails.
No knobs. I wanted to maximize the volume while minimizing the weight, they are about a pound. There are rare earth magnets embedded in the faces of the drawers, which I can pull open using a magnet, or just bump the carcass and the drawers slide a little. No lid, locks or latches, also to save weight. My wife is sewing up a vinyl cover to hold the drawers in and weatherproof it.
