This bed was made for another client’s daughter for her birthday. It’s an awesome bed with some very cool details. All of the relief carvings were made on a CNC machine (not mine but I’d like to own one someday) as was the bottom trim detail.
All of the turning work was done on my lathe and made to my client’s specifications. The overall design was achieved by multiple drawings and lots of collaboration to get to the final design you see! The finish on this bed is pretty cool. I call it black cherry. I first mixed up a custom dye and sprayed on the base color you see, which took about 5 coats. Then on top of that is the reddish hue you see which is also a custom dye mix. I sprayed that on in a rapid sweeping motion to get irregular coverage then I blended it with a soft bristle brush to give the effects you see. On top of the color is 2 coats of a satin acrylic poly sprayed on.
