Last week I have made a chalkboard to use in a sports canteen. The two seperate boards can be taken from and put back easily to a structure wich is on the wall. This way the text on it can be modified in a simple way. I hav e used french cleats for this. The wood I used is reclaimed oak. The dutch name for it is ‘wagon eiken’. Translated this means ‘wagon (as in a part of a train) oak’. Maybe someone can leave me the right translation in the comments? I have put an oil based coating on the oak. The structure on the wall is plywood and is tilted forward a little.

I have made a youtube video of the process wich can be seen here:

Regards, Gerry

Can’t help with the translation, but your project came out looking really nice!

Nice solution. According to the G-folks, “teruggewonnen eiken” is recovered oak which should be close.

Have your say...
