A different cigar

Project by Gary posted 800 days ago 333 views 0 times favorited 5 comments Add to Favorites Watch

Tried a couple of different things here. I made a new sled with a steep angle: 70 degrees and tried it out
on a Cigar kit. The rings being much longer, I decided to try my hand at a closed-end pen. Hence this Cigar:

I don’t know anything about pens but I’m sure getting ideas about things like spindles and such. This is really neat.

Great pen Gary. It turned out very nice. Are you using CA and micromesh for finish?

Keep them coming, Gary, you must inspire me to make my first pen.

Thanks guys.
Don, hopefully we can drag you down this slope and NOT totally distract you from boxes. Before I started making pens, I did lots of boxes. Not as nice as yours, but still….

The finish is CA, MM and buffed out with Plastic Polish. I turn with a skew and get as clean as I can, then use thin CA as a sanding sealer. Several layers of that. Once I get it glassy smooth, I do a few layers in medium or thick CA and wet sand with MM.

This is another great one, Gary. After seeing the knot you posted last night, I see what you mean about the thinner saw kerf. Great pen!
