Wicked carving… I personally would just use a spray on finish to highlight the natural beauty in the wood… just my thoughts..

Very nice piece.

I could do that…..If I had an old boot and a tub of liquid wood.

Great job. If I don’t paint them, I always use Miniwax transparent stain then sand off the high spots for contrast and the wear look. Then I use a spray satin stain and rub off certain areas with steel wool. Excellent!

Pan, Once in a while whimsicle projects are posted that leave me stymied as to their purpose as well as the need to build them. Most of the time I breeze right past them. You boot on the other hand is whimsicle yet I understand the need for making it. It is wonderful and I envey your carving skills. Keep following your imagination and remember to keep sharp objects pointed away from your body.

Great boot!
I would do an antique glaze that would show darker lines in the creases and lighter on the high spots. Find a buddy that wears boots and ask to look at his most worn out pair.
