Serving Board for a Wedding Gift

A chef friend of mine is attending a wedding this next weekend for another chef friend of his. He asked for a serving board that he saw at yet another chef’s house. So he asked for a four foot Walnut board with a handle. Oh, and it had to be engraved.

Of course my wife said “No problem” and quoted them a friend cost.

Well here is the result. It was far too big for many of my tools such as the bandsaw or CNC machine so it is all cut out with a jig saw and a router following a template pattern.

Sanded to 600 grit and finished with mineral oil followed by our top-secret board butter (mineral oil and bee’s wax with some vitamin E and lemon essential oil).

Overall, while the project was a bit intimidating due to being so big, it was a lot of fun. After people saw it today, I’m sure we will get orders for more.

The pictures posted are rotated for some reason. I hope you don’t get neck cramps looking at them.

Thanks for reading,

Brady…

Pretty neat gift idea. Definitely something I guess you’d have to be in the chef circle to know about or think of. How hard was it to do the lettering using a template and router?

I didn’t do the lettering with the router. I cut out the handle with the router and a template.

The lettering is done with a laser engraver. I am definitely not a freehand router person.
