Laundry Caddy for Mom

My mother asked me to build a laundry basket caddy for her, that would allow her to stack 2 baskets with minimal foot print. It has a cherry frame with wainscoting panels and formica laminated on top. The baskets slide in and out on cleats.

I added the drawer for a surprise feature. I had never cut dovetails before so I figured this was as good a project as any, to get some practice. Lets face it, Moms will love anything you make for them no matter how gappy the dovetails are.

Pic 2 is the 4th corner and pic 3 was the first I had ever cut. I was glad they had improved. The spalted maple was soft and difficult to cut cleanly. I also learned that with the chisels I had at the time I would need to sharpen them multiple times while cutting the four corners.

All in all the caddy fit where it needed to fit and is on recessed casters so it can roll right to the laundry room. She was thrilled.

Thanks for looking,
Quick

I can imagine cutting that soft maple might be like trying to cut a percise detail into a sponge, but I love the use of the spalted maple. It would make for a really unexpected and pleasant surprise when you open the drawer.
