I had a request for a small box to keep mementos of a lost loved pet.
I’m not an experienced box maker by any means and I wanted something special but did not have a lot to go on.
I spent three days thinking on it and came up with this concept, design.
Applying the concept was a real challenge for me. Getting everything square and aligned is tough. The band saw cuts worried me the most, if they did not cut straight the box was doomed or days of added work would be involved. I tuned the band saw up best I could, put on a new 3/16” blade and it cut great. I was so relieved.
Figured Maple, Walnut, Purple Heart, Ebony.
Well there’s my first serious box attempt, hope you like it, thanks for looking, Jack….................
Yin-yang entry explanation.
Just a box, it does have some dark and light contrasts, however the yin-yang effect come in when it is put to its use by the owner.
As a holder of the memories of the heart, of a lost loved one, feelings of the greatest joys and the deepest sorrows assail us. The best and the worst life has to offer. Lightest of light to darkest of dark.

I really like your design, its such a nice blend of woods and yet so whimsical. Reminds me of something from Disneyland. It made me smile.
p.s. you should tag this “box” to be sure it shows up on the searches :-)
