Nice, been thinking about doing one like the darker one. Are the legs on the lighter bench wood or metal?

Nice couple of benches!!

I made a version of that George Nelson bench out of walnut last year, and made my legs out of wood—but then mounted them to a 1/8” steel plate that ran across the entire length of the slats. I felt like I needed to stabilize it, still, side-to-side, so I mounted it to the wall with a bracket, and now it feels solid.

I’d be curious to find out how you did your legs, and how stable you feel they are.

Thanks, I made my legs out of 1×2 rectangular hollow section steel.
Used 4 long screws set close to the edges on the 2” sides per leg so they are pretty stable.
Next time I might even put a couple 3/8” rods from vertical to vertical near the top where they would not be visible.

Fortunately I do a bit of welding myself, might build two more and put one with hairpin legs.

Have your say...
