I have been interested in woodworking for many years now and finally decided to try making something out of wood.. I bought this Acoustic Research turntable some time ago which needed a new plinth as the original one was MDF covered in veneer, the veneer had started lifting and was missing pieces so it was beyond repair. So I decided to build a new solid wood plinth out of some locally grown Australian Blackwood I had laying around.
With this being my first woodworking project ever it is obviously not perfect, one of the mitered corners had a small gap but it is hardly noticeable after I filled it with some sawdust and wood glue. Learned a few things from this project, I need better quality clamps and a better table saw so I can build a sled to cut better miters.

Thanks for looking.

Beautiful! I have been thinking about doing this to a $35 turntable I found on Craigslist. I was thinking of something with a live edge. I think you have given me just the inspirational push that I needed!

Nicely done. I always liked the way those old AR tables looked, and you’ve done this one proud.
