Hi All,
Long-time lurker, first-time poster.

The idea here is that I was out of space (Navy keeps me moving). I had bench tools sitting on the floor and I wanted a home for them. But building permanent tables/cabinets in military housing isn’t an option. So I dug through some magazines and found Wood magazine’s Bench Tool System (WOOD Issue 179, October 2007)- going vertical seemed like a good solution to my square footage problem.

But I also wanted a flip-top planer cart for my DW734. So I changed the mobile cart idea into a flip-top planer cart, that still can receive a shelf from the cabinet. The axle is a 1” galvanized pipe secured with cotter pins.

The plan was customized to EXACTLY fit the Dewalt planer. Working in Sketchup, I first created the flip-top stand, ensuring the planer would hang and rotate into place freely. Then I created the shelves to fit onto the stand. Then the cabinet was created to fit the shelves.

If there is interest, I’ll share the Sketchup plan (which has the cutting diagram as well).

Thanks for all the inspiration!

Very nice. I really like my flip top stand. Very useful in my small shop.

Nice solution and thanks for sharing the Sketchup plans. I hope the cart and cabinet fit in your HHG weight limit so you can continue enjoying them.

Have your say...
