Necktie Birdhouses

Here are a few more necktie birdhouses. I often wonder if living in one of these would do harm to a bird in its society. I actually have friends who would wear real neckties with these patterns. That’s all I’m gonna say about that. Notice the second picture shows the cleanout: about a 2.25” hole covered with a .25” door which pivots on a screw. Simple enough and it works! I’ve used it on other birdhouse designs. When I first came to LJs I vowed to myself I wouldn’t show these tacky creations (they are fun, though); being so impressed by so many of you who are truly real artists in so many different mediums. Needless to say- I am not an artist-so enjoy and don’t worry that I suffer under any allusion that this is good art. I hope they make you smile.

Yes Joanne is correct this is art and many bird lovers would love to hang/display as a bird house or just a conversation piece.
These are truely fun and I am happy you decided to post them.

Skylark, have you ever been to a folk art festival? This stuff falls right in line with what some of those artists display – and it’s better than a lot of it. Don’t kid yourself. And thanks for posting.

You should be proud of your work. It is nice to see something new and different. Thank you for posting. Please explain the top piece. Does it come off?

God Bless

Goodness, sweet of you Joanne. You are all wonderful encouragers. This is like going to church. No, Whit, not been to a folk art festival. If I could meet some folks like you all, I’d like to though. Tom, the top I think you are asking about is a shingle tab that I permanently tack on and usually paint along with the body of the house.

Between the sheer number of them and each one being unique, I think we can conclude that you’re either spending a lot of time with some kind of weird obsession or that this is art. Me, I’m going with art because I can understand it, it’s nice to look at, it took some kind of innovation to come up with, and I’ve seen some of your other work. Just because you’re an artist now, don’t go getting all uppity though. lol

Best,

Thanks Jim-well, I will admit I have not been diagnosed yet. I make them 3 to 5 at a time. My shop limits it to that pretty well and I’ve found that its easier to make multiples in batches. I have a stack of the parts that I work up from time to time, then a pattern will creep into my head and I’ll assemble and paint. Hey, don’t go overboard with the art thing, I wasn’t fishing for a compliment. As I said before, LJs is full of artists and this is sure good company to keep. Thanks again, my friend. Oh, nice cat. They make my eyes water and my throat raw. I noticed in your shop an ASPCA (?) sticker, didn’t I? That’s one of the animal care groups my wife belongs to.

Everyday I take a peep at random projects while my wood stove is getting the shop warm. I make birdhouses as therapy for a spinal cord injury. I appreciated you sharing this design. This should keep me busy today.
