One of the most time-consuming tasks at weekly markets and shows is setup and tear down. This is particularly true for pens that take time to place on a display individually.

The goals over the hot summer months in Houston were to simplify our setup so that every item type was in its own box with a self-contained display.

This is what I came up with for my pens. Constructed of solid white oak, it has a lid that opens for ample storage for pen boxes and spare parts. In the front is easily accessible storage for each of my pen boxes. It also features a pull-out shelf that doubles as a display stand. Each pen box is its own display case once the top slides off.

Finished with boiled linseed oil and a high quality paste wax.

Finding the right hardware was the biggest challenge. I knew that I wanted a vintage feel to it but it is very difficult to find hardware sets with similar finishes. After I found out about Van Dyke’s, this problem was easily solved. All of the outside hardware came from Van Dyke’s Restorers.

While I was building this, I was still selling pens. Now I have a pen inventory problem that I need to solve!

Comments and critiques most welcome.

That is a really great looking display. Hope you will be able to fill it up and empty it several time during the coming shows.
