Here is my new shop made sanding drum for the drill press with the dust collecting platform.

Nice idea, with the dust pick up. I have an spindle sander and it also has holes besides the gap. They pick up any dust that gets way from the drum space. You might consider different sizes of drums and then a insert for the different sizes, simuliar to commercial ones. I have a air filled drum that I use on the drill press. They work well for soft curves etc. been using a side pickup, should combine it with a bottom pickup as well.
