A combination of a couple of designs I’d seen – this is arts and crafts practicality. Legs are mahoghany, rest is quartersawn white oak. Finish is dark walnut stain with wipe-on poly – finished in 2005, it sees a lot of use in one of the kid’s bedroom.

Really nice piece. Doesn’t look like a dark walnut stain, though… you must have wiped most of it off right away?

It’s a nice nightstand. I pictured a different look for dark walnut.

Stain – yup, wiped most of it away – intent was to pop the grain/rays/flecks in the oak by darkening the pores/grain around it while not darkening the oak or mahoghany so you could see the contrast of the two woods – Jim

My favorite kind of piece – clean and simple. That stain was right on target. I love the gentle contrast between the oak and mahogany. I’ll have to remember that trick. Nice job!

Nice looking nightstand. I need to make a couple of these for my daughter. Thanks for the inspiration.

Wonderful design and finish . The handle goes very well with it also : )
