YAOP (Yet Another OSB Project) – Chessboard

Unlike many chessboards, this one could not be sanded or planed after glue-up. Since the base material is OSB – stained and finished before being sliced and re-glued, I had to get the material planed precisely, and then very carefully aliigned.

I did hedge my bets slightly by putting extra coats of varnish over the stained OSB prior to cutting and gluing it into strips and then squares. That way I was able to sand the finished board lightly without the risk of sanding through the stain.

As usual with these OSB projects, the borders are made of strips of 2X4 – usually scraps. The entire project is finished with semi-gloss poly.

That’s really good. I’ve got a ton of OSB lying around and now I know what to do with it. Thanks for posting!
