Made a box for chess pieces. Simple box joints made on the bandsaw and tried out doing some inlay work. The knight is made out of mahogany and the rest of the box old re-used pine.

That is really nice inlay, what was your process if you don’t mind sharing?

Thank you! No problem at all. I made the box when I was testing my box joint jig and later I tought of doing an inlay on the top just to see if i could make it decent enough. I followed the woodwisperer’s guideline:
I started by tansfering the image to the pine wood and routing out that part first. I used a big router and later a rotating tool like a dremel. Chiseling out the sharp parts. After that I transferred the image on a thin piece of mahogany, I ensured i stayed on the outline as i used the bandsaw, jigsaw, files and sandpaper. From there I just went back and forth to fit the piece in. It’s a very shallow inlay, almost as thin as veneer. I failed at the cheek, where i chisseled out too much wood. I should make more detailed photo’s to reveal it.
