One year while camping in Colo. We collected pine cones, brought them back home and pulled them apart. It does take a pair of gloves to keep from getting stuck then I super glued them on an owl I had bought from home depot in the garden section.
Actually he is sitting on a little electric turn table on the deck I made to keep the birds out of the dry cat food.
I bought the feathers and eyeballs from hobby lobby to make it more realistic. It also takes a pair pliers or strong hands to pull the pine cones apart then a pair of scissors to trim the pieces to lay in nicely to make it look like feathers of an owl.
Using him as a scare crow only worked for about two weeks before the grackles go wise then back inside on the shelf.
This guy is about 15 years old and gets a little dusty from time to time but a blow gun helps there.
This was a fun project with little cost.
