Some time ago I received a copy of the Fine Woodworking magazine that had a picture of a Wooten desk on the cover, I knew at that time I would like to build such a desk, I searched for plans but could never find them as some of your readers have, anyway I thought that this would be the year to begin, the walnut is from trees that were being cleared in a subdivision project many years ago, the spalted maple I got from a friend who had a couple of logs laying in the pasture, it is difficult to try to build something without all the dimensions although the magazine does have the general sizes. I hope to complete this project this year and use it in my study.
Today March 3 I have added another photo of the progress of this project, since we are on holidays the project is at a standstill till we return, I have purchased brass hinges for the two side doors. The main case is completed and I am working on the lap top, hope fully when I return home I fill complete this and post the result, I have started to work on the doors that will enclose the main desk I have attached a photo of the progress so far.
Here it is May 2011 and and I have completed most of the front doors. I have carved the wooden inserts when will fit in the front of the doors with a maple leaf on each side.
WELL HERE IT IS 2013 AND I HAVE RESTARTED THE WOOTEN DESK PROJECT, AS YOU CAN SEE I HAVE PROGRESSED SOME MORE. THE LAST THREE PHOTOS SHOW THE INSERTS THAT FIT INSIDE THE TWO DOORS, THE LEFT INSERT IS COMPLETED WITH THE EXCEPTION OF BACKING. I AM WORKING ON THE RIGHT INSERT WHICH ARE THE SMALL DRWAERS 40 IN ALL, I HAVE CUT SYCAMORE WOOD IN THE QUARTER CUT STYLE AND ALTERNATE THEM WITH SPALTED MAPLE, ALL THE JOINTS FOR THE DRAWERS ARE THE BOX TYPE. Thanks for looking at it.
