Project Information

We built our house with our own two hand ( actually 4). Took us 3 yrs to almost complete, but there is always plenty to improve on. The porch is such a project, we never did like the look of our front porch. I love to work with cedar and I love even better the look after a good finish, so that is our wood of choice on this project.
If you look inside the screens you will see my Grandpa/Grandma Adirondack chairs and bench. They are also made with cedar.

1st picture is why we remodeled the porch
2nd picture is the screen door I made from cedar
3rd screens installed now needing skirting.
4th- 6th pictures completed screened-in porch

Very nicely done!

I also really like cedar. Can have many different appearances; just depending on finishing applied.

Great job! Really adds that finishing touch. Love the scroll details on the door. Hope you enjoy it for many years. Thanks for posting.

Looks great.

Is the door cedar as well? If it is, did you build or buy it?

I am asking because I am looking on building some cedar screen doors for our porch and looking for some feedback.

tmasondarnell: I did build the door. I used a plan I have had for years ( http://plansnow.com/door.html ). The scroll work was my addition to those plans.
Thanks everyone for the nice comments, we will enjoy our new porch. I added an outdoor rated Hunter Fan just the other day, what a nice addition that was!!!!

You did an excellent job. There is no where better to enjoy sun rises and sun sets. My wife and I added a screen porch to our house about 5 years ago. It was the best present I have ever given myself. If the weather in central Texas isn't too extreme, our family gatherings end up there. Drinking coffee and listening to the wind whistling through the screen is sure a good way to start the day. Enjoy and God bless.
