I took the goblet to get it engraved. As the goblet was going to be a one year anniversary gift, the date was suppose to be 2006. But when they entered the date, they put 2007 without thinking. This has happened before but I just remounted the goblet and turned out the mistake and had it re-engraved, but this goblet is too thin. So a new goblet had to be turned. Since I didn’t have any more pear I used osage orange. Hopefully I can get it finished this weekend. I’ll post the finished goblet when finished, hopefully with the correct date.

It’s a nice goblet. I like the look of interlocking rings.

It doesn’t look like interlocking rings on the osage orange. IS that something that you do after it is turned?

I feel the pain…. the dread that lies in those last moments of construction.. holding your breath, not wanting to screw up .. and then you do anyway… argh :(

I think the Osage Orange looks more dramatic, great grain. Maybe it was one of those cosmic accidents that happened with the pear, veering you to use Osage Orange (Bois d’Arc for you Texans, Hedge Apple in Kansas).

Great goblets. I never knew ol’ stinky Bo’doc could look so pretty. I’ll bet it takes the edge of the tools.

It turned out great any way.
Too bad you had to go around twice to get what you wanted but life is a lot like that.
You must show us how you turned the rings when you have time.

That’s ashame about the mistake Bobby. It’s a beautiful piece. Maybe I’m missing something here but don’t you now have their second anniversary present ready to go… and the begining of a really nice tradition? I looked to see if “1st Anniversary” was stamped with the wrong year and, unless it’s on the other side, I don’t see it.

Ok, that was a pretty stupid statement. I just realized how stupid it was. 2006 is the year they got married.
I was thinking… nevermind. D’oh.
