Our house came with a floor level zero clearance wood burning fireplace with fake lava rock in the bed room. Yuk! So we decided to replace it with a gas forced air fireplace. We ripped the old one out but before the new one went in, I framed a hearth 18” high and raised the level of the new fireplace. Then the new fireplace went in and I put stone tile around it. I put 4 drawers in the 18 inch hearth. The two on the sides are 16” deep, but the middle two are 4 feet deep (for blankets, quilts, etc) They actually slide underneath the gas fireplace. I wired the top part for 110V electricity and a cable TV outlet which is hidden by the molding.

That’s truly beautiful. The drawers are a really inventive idea. You did a fantastic job.
