This is a re-post of an earlier project with updated pictures for entry into the ying yang contest. The boxes are made from lacewood with peruvian walnut and curly maple accents. The walnut accents run through the joinery and throughout the entire box – inside and out. The maple interior accents lighten up the inside of the box. Both the walnut and the maple highlight the light and dark aspects of the lacewood and made a really dramatic contrast. The joinery is all double dovetail with a bookmatched top and bottom. The interior box is a through dovetail. The interior of the box is finished with lindseed oil and the outside of the box has a semi-gloss laquer finish. These boxes were made for my aunt and my mother.

Fantastic pair of boxes. Love the contrasting woods and the joinery is top notch. Sure they will both love them.

Keep it up.

Beautiful work. I love all the boxes you’ve made and its apparent you love working with the wood. I have a couple of friends who come to woodworking by way of machine/tooling work. The skills of their original trade make a major positive impact on their woodworking. What you’ve done here is a real pleasure to look at; I’d like to get my hands on one, they look smooth as silk.
