Our bedroom had a pair of 30” doors leading into that we were never satisfied with. The doors did not close properly and when open were in the way on our bedroom side. So we removed the doors, reduced the size of the opening about 10” and created an arched opening.
I then built an 86” x 45” barn door of redwood. I used 2X stock from a box store. The boards in the center of the door are redwood resawn to 5/8” inch with a slight chamfer on the edge to create the vertical lines. All mortise and tenon construction. The biggest challenge was the arched feature on the door which was cut on the bandsaw and then mortised by hand. For finish I used preconditioner then aniline dye followed by two coats of Zinsser’s amber shellac and a coat of Johnson wax.
The door hardware was purchased from Rustica Hardware.
