Now that’s a Gate! I like to make gates & garden arbors, trellises, outdoor furniture ect. At a home remodel Job the owners wanted a similar sized gate with Bluestone pillars to mount the gates to. The gates were fabricated nicely from steel & had automatic openers as well but after they were installed we found that the pillars were not on a strong enough foundation so the gates would bounce as we watched the pillars move back & forth. We upgraded the footings but still had some movement, the gates were heavy & pulled the pillars out of plumb. The gates had an electromagnetic latch with 1200lbs of power to hold them firm when closed. I didn’t see why that was necessary as the closers seemed to do that anyway but the owners wanted it that way. Nice work Jay!

When St. Peter needs a gate in Heaven, I am sure he will give you a shout. Hopefully, He can have you build it on terra firma, and move it with His Angels ! I know the Almighty would smile on you both.
Seriously, you guys did a beautiful job. I’m new to wood working, but being a former tool & die maker, plumb and square is the rule for so many disciplines. How did you treat the wood for the weather?

Fantastic gate! Anymore pics? Can you include a few of that beautiful building in the background as well! Your gate design is a perfect fit with the building.
