I asked a chap that has a sawmill if I could buy some blackwood to try it for steam bending and he gave me enough to make this chair , only the crest is steam bent and this was air dried for at least 8 years prior to bending , the arm / back is cut from 3 pieces . I did bend a 2×2 into a horse shoe shape , so it does bend well , the chair is oil finished and it ages beautiful as time passes , needless to say I will be giving the chair to the sawmill owner with the hope of getting more blackwood
