This is a blanket chest I made for our little bedroom makeover. It came about from some plywood I had leftover from a chest I made for my stepdaughter at Xmas. And it kept getting a little more elaborate as I went added drawers then veneer then hardwood top lol. I am a flooring guy so hardwood for the top was leftover from a job. Just took off old color and made it natural. The trim was made from the same flooring and had some pine for drawer fronts to match our bed. I think it came out ok. I just put poly on for the finish 2 coats brushed on and 2 coats wiped on. No masterpiece but I think it is one of better looking projects I have done.
I wanted to add a pic of the chest with the lid and the drawers open. Everything I used in this project was wood I had left over from other projects. The drawer sides were from old cabinets I salvaged from my folks old kitchen and the bottom of the chest is too. The only thing bought for this specific project was the veneer and the pulls my wife picked up. I don’t think cheap is better but if you can make something nice with what you have it is just as rewarding as making it out of the most expensive lumber.

Very nice! thanks for the ideas on how to use the hardwood flooring material. Makes a nice panel glued up.
