This is a bed that was finished on 09-08-2007. It has a lot of storage options. It features an extra deep bookcase with pull out storage located under the headboard. This one also has six drawers of storage on one side of the bed. It can accommodate another 6 drawer unit on the other side to.
I also tried a new way of connecting the headboard to the platform. On each side, I drilled for two dowels and a hole all the way through for a draw type bolt. (see photo below)
The platform is made from ¾” MDF with a hardwood edge. The Maple edge is attached with biscuits and pocket screws. The 45 degree corners were doweled with two dowels.
The finish was matched to a customer’s drawer. I use a NGR Red Mahogney dye to darken the maple and then I used a regular wiping stain to give it the color and pop the grain.

Nice looking bed Chris. I like the looks of the bed, and all the storage units. I bet this will be popular.

I would think it would be popular. I don’t sell a lot of them. I list a really cool black lacquer one on my Kid’s Furniture web site. http://poggyskids.com/storage_platform.htm

This is what my wife has been wanting for several years. This is the best looking platform bed that I have seen.

Chris I’ve got a friend at the Mason-Dixon Woodworking club. he made a bed similiar to yours but he put a full length drawer in the end that went between the side drawers on each sides. He made it for extra pillows and blankets.
A nice design.

Nice job. My brother-in-law is almost finished with a very similar bed. He used a Woodsmith plan. I like the display space on your’s. WoodSmith’s headboard was all cherry, but stained two contrasting shades. Well done.

Jeff, I’d like to see that, expecially with the contrasting colors.

Very nice. I am planning on building a platform with storage for my bedroom.
Question: How do you determine which matresses will work without traditional boxsprings?
