My daughter asked me to make a liter box in the garage with a pass thru. I thought the box should be a little more practical so I turned the box into a work bench and added some functionality to the otherwise boring idea. Plus I thought my son-in-law would like it better.
The work bench is was constructed using a 2×4 frame – trimmed the rounded edges off and used kreg jig. I added an MDF top with a white hardboard for a replaceable top surface. I used my panel cutting table with the rest of the MDF to get as close to dead flat surface as I could for preparing the top. Middle layer was another kreg frame using 1-by. I separate the top frame and the mid-frame with solid 1×10 and the kreg again. All glued. The bottom panels was 1/4 baltic birch with the edge 1×3 tying it all together from top to bottom. I assembled it all upside down. The door panel where the litter box goes is a simple drop in door with two latches to keep it from rattling from air pressure. I decide to make thinner drawers since I always lose things in too deep of drawer. The last open drawer space I left since they will probably have something else up against the corner of the bench anyway.
