Work Bench

I forgot to add one of my very first things I built here recently. I mentioned on my page where I am slowly converting my garage into my work shop. This was my first step in that direction. I used no plans or designs (well I did draw it out to give me reference) and came up with this. Originally I was just going to build it open on the bottom, but the though of not having a way to put things up out of sight bothered me. So I made an attempt to cabinet it out, and building doors. Came out so so in my opinion. Looking back at it now there are a lot of things I would do differently, but given what my wood working knowledge was at that moment… That was a major accomplishment at the time.

Not the prettiest thing in the world, but I am tickled to have a work bench… Thanks for checking it out.

P.S. I even threw in the before pic to show what it evolved from.

Dan, this is a nice addition to your shop. It looks to be solid and well built. And, of course, the additional storage is always welcome.

Now the challenge will be in keeping it open enough to use it. :) I usually get lazy when I am in the middle of a project and use it to store my hand tools rather than put them back where they belong.

Looks like a good solid design. I like the overhang in front, enabling you to clamp boards and other accessories to the top.

Thanks everyone! This was just the first step in my little plan for world domination… Cough!.. Cough!... I mean converting my garage to a wood shop…lol

Next big job is to build the cabinets that will be hung above the bench that match. May get on that in a couple of weeks. Cant wait to get that going. Im running out of room to put things very quickly….lol

That’s a great start. Get orginized from day 1 and your shop won’t look like a dump like mine. That’s why I have not posted any pics yet. This spring I plan on an upgrade with plans I have from a Shopnotes mag.
