Project by bryano posted 810 days ago 506 views 0 times favorited 8 comments Add to Favorites Watch

This was my third project. A jewelry box for my wife. Made from scrap cherry i retrived from my local cabinet shop. the doors were the hardest part because the boards were glued end grain to end grain. the project took about one week in the evenings to finish. I used a cherry stain and polly.

Very nice. I bet she liked it. Did you reinforce the joints on the doors?

Thanks WayneC. Yes she did like it. She would like it more if it was full. No I did not reinforce the door joints, but it probably would have been a good idea.

Interesting design, Bry.

I just love small wooden boxes, and I suppose in a broad sense, I would define this as a small box. It’s more a miniature chest of drawers.

I’m not sure what your intention is for the two side compartments. Lee Valley sells some real nice box jewelery – I would install chain hangers in these.

Very nice box – it came out great. I am wondering why you would use cherry stain on Cherry wood? I’m just curious, I like to see the wood speak for itself – of course, I’m sure you had a reason for doing so – just wondering. The wife should have been very happy – stain or not :-))

Thanks Don, I have one chain hanger that I havent installed yet. I still need another. Ill check Lee Valley.

Thanks Thos.Angle. I try to use recycled or found materials in all my projects. It saves trees and money.

Thanks cajunpen. I used the cherry stain because I wanted a darker look.

Real nice project Bryano. Want to cap it off nice and give her a thrill everytime she opens it? Install a small musicbox. There’s hundreds out there, I’m sure you can find one with “yours and her song”.
