Honduran Mahogany Bookcase

This bookcase is for my son who is 3 and has about 300 that just barely fit. The angle of the photos makes it look top-heavy, but it sits solidly. This Honduran lumber was slightly porous and I thought about using a grain filler and stain to really smooth it over, but couldn’t bring myself to alter the natural finish of the wood. Obviously not too complicated of a design….only a sliding dovetail for the bottom shelf, shelf pins, and biscuits for the top…. just a simple case with great wood.

I love mahogany, especially Honduran. Though it is getting harder to come by. Nice job though it does look like the the sides were turned upside down. Happy New Year.

Clean, nicely executed and the simple design really sets off that beautiful wood.
The finish sure shows that awesome grain.

Nice Job.

Beautiful work. I love that you went with a natural finish instead of staining. Stain is so good at hiding the natural beauty of wood and I almost never use it on anything myself.

Beautiful bookcase. Nice to hear of a 3 year old with more books than video games. My 3 year old daughter has a lot of books also and when she is not looking at them we try and keep her busy with other things than the tv and video games. Might be hard since we picked up a Wii for x-mas.
