This is a hickory chest I built for my mom on Mother’s day last year. A friend of mine salvaged a hickory tree which was going to be bulldozed, and sawmilled some planks for me. I am notorious for starting new projects with a full sized board instead of using the smaller scraps first. So when my supply of hickory ran out, I ended up searching high and low for all my leftover hickory scraps and dumping them on my workbench to see if I have enough to build something.
I did have enough to build mom a chest, and I usually fill the bins inside the chest with candy and other gifts. The animals inside the chest came from scrap wall-paper cutouts. The ring handles are also turned hickory which makes the handles functional and very unique. Overall a great project for your leftover scraps, and before you know it, mother’s day will soon be approaching
