This is the second attempt of making an ornament like Topguy’s. Alas, the first one didn’t make it through the surgey, and died on the lathe. Made the holes too big, and ran out of wood before it was turned round. Made the holes on this one smaller. Main body is cherry, the top is red and black laminate, the tree is bright green laminate. This ornament is not perfect. There is a lot of stuff that has to go right to make the perfect one. Lots of measurement have to be right. Had to drill my top and bottom holes by hand with a drill, not such a good idea, don’t have a drill chuck for my new Christmas Lathe. The tree was fun, made it on my smaller Carba-Tech lathe with a mini chuck. Not a hard as people think. Friction finish on the tree, and red top, 4 coats of conversion varnish on cherry. This one is a keeper for me the first one. Thanks Toyguy for the inspiration. Will be writing up a review on my new Jet 1220vs lathe, and Nova Chuck soon. Thanks for looking!

Nice work! I really like the green laminate tree in the center. Also, congratulations on the new lathe. I think Jet makes a great lathe.

Fantastic job. The first is allways the hardest. My wife keeps most of my firsts. The problem with that is I am allways trying new things and don’t make too many seconds. haha

Great job. Keep it up.

OMG I have not laughed that hard in a while!!! ” Did not make it through the Surgery and died on the Lathe ” That is the funniest thing I have seen on here.

Great job on the one that you were able to pull through. Was it natural or C section!!!!!!!!!!!

That looks great

Have your say...
