Built with 90% recycled white oak (from wood floors). At the time I did not want to spend $600.00 on a mechanical clock, so I compromise with a digital mechanism. It is a Crafstman style from Wood magazine and it is 7’ tall. I think that it was build in 2003.

Zipsss, how much prep work was involved in getting the oak flooring ready for your project? Did you cut the tongue and grooves off of each piece? Did you the back side of the boards have the grooves that had to be planed? Just curious, I have a friend that is in the flooring business and your project just made me think I might ask for scraps – if it’s not too much extra prep work.

Beautiful! I have an idea for the other two pictures I hope you post. That clock face looks beguiling, and what are the details at the top, bottom and between the hood and the waist sections? Through tenons?

Almost no prep. I usually work with unfinish wood planks, but if they are finish in one side I try to take advantage of that fact. I do not plane the back sides of the boards. It gives it more authenticity as a recycled piece of wood. I do cut the tongue and groove in most cases, but some times when I need a wider board I keep it. I will try to post more pics.

Very nice Zip. By the way, what are the rolls of paper in the bottom of the clock for?

I store some woodworking books and an old vase in the bottom area.
