Hello,
Beautiful pieces. I’m just starting to experiment with adding color to wood. I have been having problems with color bleeding. Anyone have any good tips and advice? I’m using woods like basswood and alder.

I’m using the same woods. What are you coloring with? I use oil pencils from Walnut Hollow. I’ve never had a problem with bleeding…tell me how do you color? Dannie

Again, Dannie, very nice. How do you make the oval fluted boxes?
Oh, almost forgot – I just love small wooden boxes. LOL

if you are having trouble with color bleeding. put a sanding sealer on it first before the color.
and if you use colored pencils. be careful of how much paint thinner yu use to “melt” the pencil on the wood.
pratice on scrap wood first.
good luck.

Danette & Pat, thanks for the advice, I will experiment some more. Roger also suggested using a gel stain which has a thicker viscosity than other types of stains. I have been using water based acrylic paints and different types of wood stains.
