Project Information
Because the name of the magazine is WOODcraft, I threw a lot of naturally finished wood at this one-a lot for me, anyway.
Thanks to my good buddy, and photographer for Woodpeckers, Inc., Will Kanzeg, for the attached photos. Capturing motion in a still photo is an art in itself.
My greatest challenge in this project was "rusting" the "cast iron" gears without making it look contrived. I used silver and copper acrylic paint on Baltic birch plywood and then buffed it to 12,000-grit-that's right, 12,000!
I don't mess around.
And then there's the controversial video …
I made it for myself just for kicks, and then shared it with my editor.
Turns out that it's WAAAY too radical for their readers.
As Ricky Nelson sang in Garden Party-"You can't please everyone, so you have to please yourself."
Amen, brother.
