This was our youngest sons Christmas Gift. It was a joke as far as being a RARE Blackbird. When he was little and we were out hiking he told my wife and I that he had seen a “Rare” Blackbird with the red wings. We have been teasing him about it for the last 7 or 8 years now and I thought that would be a fun gag gift for him this year.
It is life size like all my bird carvings and is carved out of Basswood.
The Stump I carved for a base is also out of Basswood.

you just gotta love teasing that goes on for years and years!
A great carving. The RWB is one of my favourite birds—and one of the first signs of spring!

Now the question is: ‘How funny does your son think this is?” :)

That is nice, how long did it take to carve?

Thanks everyone.
Snowdog… I never keep to close of the time my carvings takes or I would cry on the ones I sell as I would make about 5cents per hour. lol
Most of the song birds take 30-50 hours with painting and habitat. The Stump for this one took about 3-5 hours to carve and paint I think.
