These are my first attempts at using wood dyes using methods similar to those of Trifern and Jimmy Clewes. Both the box and the vase are made from Kentucky Coffee Tree, a wood I am really starting to like. The box uses two colors: red and yellow. The vase uses three colors: red, orange and yellow. I am reasonably happy with the results. The vase has an almost iridescent quality where the color seems to change depending on how you look at it and how the light is striking it.

What I’ve learned is that the look you end up with is heavily dependent on the way you sand in between applying the different colors. I plan to continue working on with the dyes and see what I can come up with.

I still love the beauty of natural, unstained wood, but I also really like the vibrant colors you can get with the dyes.

Great work, Trifem does amazing work. I joined Jimmy Clewes website. He rocks when it comes to turning and love his videos on coloring as well. Just got some of his creams. His personalitiy is infectous.
As he wood say , you sand it back its that easy no right and wrong. Warm up your finish so you dont get spitty bits LOL
Well done.
