My wife’s birthday is coming up, and she mentioned that she loved a local furniture company’s world map wall sign. It was out of my price range, so I decided to build my own. This was one of my most complex builds so far. The project is about 50”x30”. I found a local vinyl decal company that was able to make a sticker stencil which I used to paint the world map. I went with ash wood, stained with some leftover Minwax dark walnut, and finished with a paste wax. It seemed that every step of the way something went wrong, particularly in finishing. The islands by Greenland gave me major headaches.

If I were to do it again, I’d do almost everything different and I think I could get it nearly perfect. Regardless I’m happy with the finished product and I think my wife will be when I surprise her with it next week.

Beautiful gift for her. Giving is always better than taking, especialy when you work what you like for person you love.

I agree with the others, that’s an impressive undertaking.

That is a very creative piece. You have done a wonderful job on this.
