This is a grand-father clock I built out of scrap wood I recuperated in afghanistan in 2005 while being on a NATO mission. I had to get busy during my time off duty, (I’m a Operating room nurse with the Canadian armed forces) so I had the hardware sent to me from Canada through Lee Valley, it got there in a week!! Faster than regular mail! Anyway, I scrolled out the drawing at the base of the clock and used a sanded piece of plexiglass inside to duffuse the 3 X 5 watt light bulbs creating a nice effect to bring it to life. The top portion comes off for transportation and a canadian flag cut-out tops it. I stained the outside with aniline powder stain so I coulg get it on the mail and then use gel varnish for top coat times 3. I gave it to the combined mess of snr nco’s and officers of the Kabul task force. It’s now still in Afghanistan but in Kandahar in the same mess. It’s my contribution to their effort.

I bet it meant a lot to your compatriots. And a great way to stay busy during your slack time. Nice job.

You’ve already contributed so much just by being there as a nurse…now this. Beautiful! And thanx for being there for all of us!

Great project for a wonderful cause. I hope you put on the back that you did the work so that all who see and touch can know who did the work for them.
