Recycle Repurpose Re-Gift

This is my second palm box, the lumber in the first picture is all recycled and is what I used to make this box. so there is maple that I acquired while dumpsters diving at a local stair & railing company close to my home, the dark wood is some Ipe that used to be a deck that was given to me from a buddy who was doing some Renos of a really high end home, and the striped lumber is some dunnage made from some engineered
Beam material

So I have learned a lot by doing this box,
1, have a plan, & plan, plan, plan
2, think about the order in which your going to do things as far in advance as you can
3, sanding sucks, but is some how calming zzzzzzzz!!!
4, don’t be inpatient when waiting between coats of finish ( oh and don’t use paper towel to apply finish)

Now here’s a tip, if your going to use a belt sander to lower brass pins or any kind of metal for that fact. Make sure you don’t keep it on the belt for too long, I was grinding down my pins that I had glued in so I could bring them flush to the box, and I didn’t notice till I was back at the bench, but one of them was MIA, where it went I don’t know, so I thought maybe it fell out on the way to the sander. So I cut a new piece and and started again, this time paying more attention to it and realized that the friction at the belt sander caused the pin to heat up the glue and forced out the pin out of place.

PS. The box has two coats of Danish Oil and was wondering if I should leave it with afloat finish or go gloss, I did plan to put some paste wax on it as well, your advice is welcomed
Sorry about the pics.

I really like the form of the box and the contrast of different species. Great score on the materials also. I feel finding the wood is part of the fun. I am getting ready to build a roubo workbench out of found oak 2/6s used to bring in pipe on a rail car that is otherwise just thrown away. Great work keep posting.
